Bonne Ecole Elementary School HVAC Replacement
The St. Tammany Parish School Board selected Moses Engineers for a $2.1 Million full HVAC Replacement at the Bonne Ecole Elementary School in Slidell, LA. Moses Engineers replaced four large rooftop DX units serving the cafeteria, kitchen, library and administrative offices. We also replaced their existing central plant serving thirty classrooms via fan coil units.
Moses Engineers provided an assessment report and then coordinated with STPSB’s construction administrators to finalize the work scope. The design replaced the existing rooftop DX equipment with similar packaged DX air handling equipment but included heating capability, eliminating the need for stand-alone floor mounted heaters.
In the classrooms, we replaced the fan coils with energy efficient VRF cassettes. Variable Air Volume Terminal Devices in each classroom deliver neutral outside air to each classroom via Direct Outside Air Systems (DOAS). These energy efficient devices lower costs while providing comforts for occupants.
We replaced the kitchen’s DX system with sidewall mounted VRF units .
We installed a fresh air compensating hood, providing for 80% of the kitchen’s hood exhaust, thereby providing good air quality, decreasing contaminants, and pressurizing the building to keep humidity levels down, reducing the risk of mold and mildew forming. The remaining air is drawn from the adjoining cafeteria’s AHU.
All systems were BACnet and integrated the school’s existing control’s system. During construction, the remaining campus’ buildings were retrofitted with BACnet compatible panels unifying the control design.
This project’s budget was $2.1 million and completed almost at that exact figure as we avoided significant increases in costs. The project includes a five-year parts and labor on all mechanical equipment.
