New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute

Restoring a former Art Works Building of historical significance, this endeavor transformed a downtown corner into a vibrant hub of student activity. Central to the revitalization was the establishment of a street-side café and a 3rd-floor “pop-up” restaurant space, creating focal points for student engagement. The culinary school, spanning five stories, features active learning classrooms, collaborative areas, and seven distinct teaching kitchens. Among its innovative elements are rooftop terraces doubling as herb gardens, a student common area, and spacious event areas. The challenge of integrating two protein kitchens, two pastry labs, a large event kitchen, a pop-up restaurant kitchen, and a street-side café kitchen, alongside various beverage and hospitality spaces, was meticulously met.

With a $15M budget, Moses Engineers worked alongside Eskew Dumez Ripple Architects to bring this 85,431 square foot project to life. Moses   provided all the HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Lighting, and Fire Alarm System Design for the entire project.  The construction was executed through a design-assist/design-build hybrid approach, in collaboration with local builder Woodward Design-Build.
