Kipp Leadership Academy, formerly Charles J. Colton School
This circa-1929 former school designed by Edgar Angelo Christy was damaged by Hurricane Katrina and completely renovated opening in 2012. A new 25,000 sq. ft. addition included a cafeteria, library and gymnasium. In 2014, this $28 million project earned an American Institute of Architecture Honor Award for its light filled interiors and quality of construction.
Moses Engineers provided all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) services. During design, Moses Engineers convinced the Recovery School District to deviate from their standard chilled water VAV systems to use water source vertical fan coil units. This change lowered the costs, provided easier maintenance and reduced noise for added points in achieving a LEED Silver certification.
