Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown

In March 2022 Canopy by Hilton opened to guests in the heart of downtown New Orleans. The location at 1100 Tulane Ave used to be the former Oil & Gas Building, but after a historic renovation is now a boutique hotel. The brand launched in 2014 and has an urban neighborhood vibe with a focus on sustainability. The hotel features 176 guest rooms, 1,700 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center, a terraced patio, and an on-site restaurant.

Services Provided by Moses Engineers

Moses Engineers provided the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for the building with a focus on sustainability and safety. The MEP design uses state of the art variable refrigerant flow, heat recovering technology, and a dedicated outside air system. This system substantially reuses the energy usage of the building through energy recovery, and it also maintains ventilation for occupants throughout the hotel. The plumbing system uses variable speed pumps with variable frequency drives. This ensures the hotel keeps adequate pressure while still minimizing energy usage. Moses’s design also includes condensing style water heaters to increase efficiency and reduce natural gas usage for the building’s water heating systems.

To ensure safety for all hotel occupants Moses Engineers also included a fire pump and sprinklers throughout the building’s design. A voice-evacuation fire alarm system used with an on-site Fire Command Center ensures that in the case of an emergency, hotel occupants will be notified and able to exit the building. Alarm sensors also monitor the refrigerant as an added safety measure in case a refrigerant leak would ever occur.

Moses Engineers also provided a building automation system to operate the building’s equipment in the most efficient manner. It also allows for incorporating programming that will reduce the overall energy usage of the hotel. The hotel has a modern electrical system with generator backup. The entire design complies with all applicable building codes and the brand standards of Canopy by Hilton. The building also uses energy efficient LED lighting and automatic lighting controls to lessen the electrical load.
