Andrew Wilson Elementary School
Andrew H. Wilson Elementary School in the Broadmoor neighborhood sustained substantial flood and wind damages due to Hurricane Katrina. This historic building from 1909 underwent a total transformation with new building wings designed to meet stringent sustainable design standards, ultimately achieving the LEED for Schools Gold certification.
Moses Engineers provided all mechanical, electrical and plumbing design including rainwater irrigation, interior light shelves, solar hot water, a 25 Kw photovoltaic (solar energy) system and natural daylighting to all classrooms and core learning spaces. A building utilities monitoring software and display kiosk provides students and teachers with up to date information on gas, electricity and water consumption.
Moses Engineers, under a separate project, designed a Common Facilities Automation System connecting Wilson to over 20 other New Orleans Public Schools so that each school can track and compare their utility consumption per square foot to other schools.
