Xavier University Convocation Center & Annex
Xavier University of Louisiana’s Convocation Center and Annex were built by Landis Construction Co. in a fast track process completed in 2012. Occupied first was the 23,000 square foot three story Annex building housing conference rooms, meeting rooms, educational and office space. Moses Engineers provide all mechanical, engineering, and plumbing (MEP) for this project.
The Convocation Center is a 4,500 seat multi-purpose facility. It’s the home of Xavier’s men’s and women’s varsity basketball and women’s varsity volleyball teams, as well as hosting baccalaureate ceremonies, convocations and theatrical/musical performances. The athletic department offices, locker rooms and training facilities are also housed within the Convocation Center. Sports and theatrical lighting, their controls, and audio/visual systems including a multi-face LED scoreboard are state of the art in energy efficiency and effectiveness., capable of operating in an energy efficient manner whether occupied by a handful of people or hosting a full house rock concert. Both facilities earned LEED Silver certification.
In a gesture to cement Xavier’s commitment to the environment the adjacent surface parking facilities utilize photovoltaic panels to provide shelter form the elements while offsetting the energy used by the LED nighttime security lighting.
